Opportunity

As our Chief Technology Officer, you will play multiple roles to be successful. You of course possess technical expertise but your responsibilities reach far beyond coding or engineering. You’ll play an increasingly important strategic role, collaborating with every part of the business as well as working beyond company borders.

Our SaaS product is disrupting the compliance industry and you will be the driving force behind our technology and product teams. You are someone who is an innovative leader and stays on top of modern technology! You’ll report to the CEO and work with other members of the leadership team on our business goals and technology strategy and lead through execution and beyond. You likely have strong leadership and managerial skills, including a track record of leading onshore and offshore engineering teams in a B2B SaaS company (preferably cyber security).

Your communication skills are exceptional, so you are familiar with discussing complex technologies with employees, customers, and other stakeholders. You are a strategic thinker and have strong business acumen. You have current knowledge and experience with some (not all) of the following technologies: AWS, Serverless, Jira, API architecture, PHP (Laravel), Vue.js (Quasar), Python, Golang, responsive design, and database management (SQL), among others. You are someone who has experience inspiring, developing, and engaging a world-class team of engineers, product managers, UX designers, and data analysts. You have experience with distributed teams that emphasize online communication (Slack, GitHub, Zoom, Jira, Google Docs, Confluence, etc.).

You’re committed to continuous learning and development. You’ll oversee ongoing operations, and also bear responsibility for cybersecurity, innovation, and product development — all while keeping close tabs on the ever-evolving vision of the company.

Within 1 month, you will…

  • Complete onboarding and meet 1:1 with all existing ByteChek team members.
  • Meet with existing customers to understand why they chose ByteChek.
  • Study and learn the ByteChek technology stack and product roadmap.
  • Learn our current processes and tools for software development.  
  • Join your first few (of many) cross-functional leadership team meetings, and share actionable insight from your first impressions and prior experiences.
  • Present your technical leadership philosophy.
  • Identify and research competitor products.
  • Shadow at least 3 support tickets/calls with ByteChek GRC Engineers.
  • Shadow at least 3 sales calls.

Within 3 months, you will…

  • Collaborate with our Sales, Product, and Marketing leaders to facilitate a Product Hunt launch.
  • Hire and begin to train a team of qualified and talented software engineers.
  • Collaborate with the product manager to update the product roadmap and submit it to the CEO and executive team.
  • Implement changes to improve the customer experience.
  • Establish a long-term hiring plan for the engineering department.
  • Identify, negotiate, and develop strategic technical partnerships to support business priorities and objectives.
  • Establish quality assurance, security, and data protection processes.
  • Identify and research new technological developments that can help the company improve efficiency and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Produce your first piece of ByteChek engineering content.

Within 6 months, you will…

  • Establish an inclusive and supportive software development culture.
  • Implement an agile software development workflow to develop and release new features quickly.
  • Establish coaching and mentoring plans for software engineers.
  • Regularly report key metrics of the product including security issues, up-time of the application, and other KPIs.
  • Implement a plan to reduce cloud infrastructure spending.
  • Serve as the external face for ByteChek’s technical vision by engaging in speaking opportunities, conferences, media activities, etc.
  • Utilize social media and online marketing strategies to build a strong online presence.

Within 9 months, you will….

  • Anticipate hiring needs, actively participate in the recruitment process, and develop a yearly budget for the engineering team.
  • Regularly provide market expertise to the sales and marketing departments in the company while helping build relationships with potential customers.
  • Promote confidence in the company’s technical vision, participate in customer meetings and work diligently to meet end-user needs.

Within 12 months, you will...

  • Set and achieve team objectives by enabling individual team members to give their very best.
  • Spend almost 50% of their time improving team members through one-on-one meetings, training, and coaching.
  • Understand business objectives enough to translate them into technical objectives that your team will execute.

Compensation: $275,000-$300,000

Equity commensurate with your experience and the importance of this role to ByteChek.
