Data Engineer

Bandcamp is seeking a talented person with a hybrid engineering-analytics skillset. You will join our small (yet growing!) data team to maintain and expand the infrastructure that enables us to analyze and research how artists, labels, and fans use Bandcamp, with the goal of helping artists connect with and be directly supported by their fans.

Bandcamp is an online record store and music community where passionate fans discover, connect with, and directly support the artists they love. We believe that music is an indispensable part of culture, and for that culture to thrive, artists—no matter their identity, community, or genre—must be compensated fairly and transparently for their work.

You will:

  • Enhance the performance and scalability of existing data infrastructure in collaboration with our systems engineering team.
  • Integrate diverse data into our warehouse, working with APIs and modifying feature code to enhance data collection on bandcamp.com.
  • Conceptualize and implement SQL transformations that integrate numerous datasets and can serve as sources of truth to answer an array of business questions.
  • Identify issues in our data and address them using data transformation tooling (dbt) in order to enhance our capacity to perform ad hoc analyses.

You have:

  • On-the-job experience with workflow management (Airflow) and data warehouse software (BigQuery, Snowflake, or Redshift).
  • Programming experience in an object-oriented language like Ruby or Python.
  • Familiarity with web technologies, including JavaScript.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Facility working across team boundaries and with multiple stakeholders to accomplish tasks.
